Welcome to the Wheatbelt town nestled in the Avon Valley Region of WA
York is an historic country town located within the Avon Valley, just under 100km east of Perth. An hour and a half drive via the Great Eastern Highway through to the timbered Darling Ranges or the Great Southern Highway through the Wheatbelt's rolling hills makes York the perfect country getaway from the city.
Historically, the town was used as a stopover en route to the Goldfields. It was first settled in 1831 and is the oldest inland town in Western Australia.
Surrounded by farmland and located on the Avon River, York is a town popular amongst individual travellers, couples, families and contract or seasonal workers. Contrasting the picturesque country landscape is York's historic main strip, a vibrant town centre brimming with heritage buildings dating back to the 1800s.
